Titan Poker player Frederic Levy realizes his love of poker can reap huge awards.

Frederic Levy, a 35-year-old poker player from Saumur, France, finished in 21st place out of nearly 700 players at the prestigious Irish Open poker tournament in Dublin, Ireland. Frederic has been playing for less than two years on Titan Poker, the largest poker room on the iPoker Network.

He managed to walk away 18,000 Euros richer from his first live tournament experience. Titan Poker sent 17 European poker players as well as one Canadian to the 2008 Irish Open. Frederic exceeded other participants’ performances by his hefty success. However, things did not look so optimistic for Frederic at the beginning of his play. He began his second day with only 7,200 chips. “I was sure I wouldn’t be there long, but after a few good hands, where I was able to triple up, I had 55,000 chips, and by the end of the day 82,000!” Frederic continued to skillfully advance, and eventually found himself seated at the TV table, which broadcasts this elite tournament. This is where Frederic experienced his most glorious victory when he turned a pair of Fours into a Flush to beat his opponent’s pair of Jacks. Being televised did not cause Frederic to become nervous, and he admitted that this experience was actually “fun.” After realizing such a wonderful victory in Dublin, Frederic is looking forward to achieving an even bigger poker dream. “Playing at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas would be a dream come true because I have never been there,” Levy admitted.

Attending the WSOP in Las Vegas is a dream for many accomplished and amateur poker players alike. Titan Poker is helping actualize this for many players in 2008. Titan Poker players now have 3 different competitions online where they can qualify to attend this prestigious event in June and July 2008. This year Titan Poker has upped the ante by offering players an “executive package” that truly lavishes qualifying players with the Royal treatment while attending the WSOP. This package is valued at $20,000.

If you are a dedicated online poker player then you will understand the importance of gaining a competitive edge over your opponents while playing at the poker table. One way you can accomplish this is by educating yourself with the vital concept known as pot odds; if you are to succeed in the world of online poker then you must know pot odds like the back of your hand.

The concept of pot odds is a crucial deciding factor in poker play. Pot odds refer to the relationship between the size of the pot and the size of the bet. E.g., if there is $20 in the pot and you have to call a $4 bet, then you are getting pot odds of 5-1. If you have to call a $10 bet in the same $20 pot, you are getting pot odds of 2-1. I strongly recommend you use an online poker odds calculator to improve and strengthen your game. However the good news is that you do not have to be a genius at mathematics to calculate pot odds, and I will show you how to do it, it is a fairly simple process. Although it is very handy and efficient to have odds calculator at hand that can calculate many types of pot odds i.e. drawing outs, odds for winning at the river etc, and also offer vital information on your opponents.

One thing you should remember is that you should always be aware of pot size. Now to calculate the pot, all you have to do is take the amount of money in the pot and divide it by the amount of money that you must put into the pot, and you will have pot odds.

Pot Odds= Money in pot / Money to be put in pot by you

Pot Odds are pretty useless when you try to use them on their own. You have to combine using pot odds with hand odds. They work together very well with each other to create a great way to know when to call a hand and when not to and when your getting the best value for your money. So what are hand odds? Hand odds are simply your chances of hitting your draw and making your strong hand. A few of the common drawing hands are the flush draw and the open ended straight draw. Once you know your pot odds, you have to use this information appropriately. You do this by connecting the pot odds to the value of your hand, Hand Odds. E.g. you have a flush draw on the flop and you are up against an opponent with top pair. There are nine outs that will give you a flush, hence you have bout a 35% chance (2-1against) of making your flush on the turn or river. So to call a bet on the flop to draw to your flush you at least need pot odds of 2-1 to call.

Ok so now that you have a general idea of what pot odds are and how they can help your game I will show you how to calculate pot odds while you are playing. If you wish to calculate pot odds then the first thing you must know, is the amount of outs you have in order to make a winning hand. Once you know the outs it is easy to figure out the percentages and odds.

Calculating Hand Odds

- Count the number of outs you have that will make a winning hand.

- On the flop, multiply your outs by 4 then add 1.

- On the turn, multiply your outs by 2 then add 1.

e.g.

You are Holding AK of spades and the flop comes (10, 7, Q) with two spades on the board, now believe it or not you are in an extremely strong position to win this hand even though you have not hit nothing yet on the flop. It is pretty safe to assume we will win this hand if another spade comes out or if a Jack hits, also we may win if a king or ace comes off. So to calculate our odds:

Outs = 19 outs ( 9 spades, 4 Jacks, 3 Aces, 3 Kings)

Therefore on the flop you have a (19*4 + 1) 77% chance of winning the hand

On the turn you have a (19*2 + 1) 39% chance of wining the hand

So You see, in this example you have approximately a 7.5:10 chance of winning this hand, which means you will win 7.5 out of 10 times on this draw. So in order for you to call a bet, you must have pot odds that match up to this. Your odds here are of winning this hand are 3:1.

A General rule of thumb for poker odds calculations is that every out gives you an approximate 4% chance of hitting on the turn and river combined. For example, five outs give you about a 20% chance of improving, six outs about 24%, etc

To make money in poker consistently, you must learn how to think through these odds. If that’s too hard (it is for most of us, so don’t feel bad), then go ahead and get a good poker odds calculator, I have reviewed a few great pieces of software, check them out by visiting the Software Reviews Link in the Categories, and judge for yourself if a poker odds calculator is needed to elevate the consistency of your game.

Calculating all outs, pot odds and hand odds can get pretty confusing and time consuming while you are in the middle of a hand. Therefore it makes things a lot easier if you invest in an online poker odds calculator, which are usually Free these days if you sign up with a poker room through their website. On the other hand with that being said, next time you play in a local poker room or at the casino you won’t have these calculators at hand, so perfect your game and learn this crucial information about pot odds so you can have an extra weapon in your poker arsenal.

What does this tell YOU, that you either have a distinct advantage over your competition if you are using these tools or YOU are being exploited by the smarter and more prepared players who are using these Poker Calculators.

In this article I will review this common online poker software known as Hold Em Indicator, you’ll learn what advantages you may have when playing online poker with this software. You’ll also see how it can help you to become a more profitable and consistent player and how it is highly likely it will help build your bankroll in no time.

Hold Em Indicator is well known in the industry as one of the best Poker odds Calculators, other highly regarded tools are Calculatem Pro and Poker indicator, however Holdem Indicator with its extensive range of features and easy to use user friendly design has surpassed any competitor in this highly competitive industry. All features that are critical to play and profitability are present in this software.

Holdem Indicator smoothly connects to almost any poker room and it registers your poker hand automatically even if the poker table is minimized. This gives you the first advantage, you can let Holdem Indicator register that you are playing at any table and after it has been connected for 50 hands, Holdem Indicator will categorize the players at the table into different groups like solid, fish, sharks and so on. Holdem Genius Review

There is a vast amount of money up for grabs in the world of online poker; all you have to do is know how to get it. One tool that can help you gain a competitive advantage over your opponents and help you label the fish in online poker is Hold Em Genius. This particular tool is a Poker Odds Calculator and features advanced odds calculation, including pot odds, immediate outs, and up to the minute instant betting advice. If you are a dedicated online poker player than you will know that we are always looking for ways to improve our game strategies, and gain a competitive edge over our competition, HoldEm Genius could prove to be a very useful tool; hence I am going to write a detailed review and let you judge for yourself if this tool could help improve your game.

HoldEm Genius is a comprehensive, easy to use poker odds calculator which analyses pot odds, hand odds and other factors to instantly determine whether a hand is worth playing. Along with offering Odds it also offers advice on what the player should do in the hand e.g. check or bet, this can be a great way for a complete novice to learn the game. With an easy to understand interface and varying scale depending on your style of play, HoldEm genius is both adaptive and can be extremely useful for any online poker player.

To be quite honest Holdem Genius isn’t the best poker odds calculator on the market, in my opinion it does fall behind Holdem Indicator, however not many online calculators can be compared to Hold Em Indicator as it is probably significantly ahead of the competition (Hold Em Indicator Review). Nonetheless Holdem Genius is a great piece of software in its own regards, it has a few unique features such as the ‘Top Hands’ and the ‘Next Card’ Feature. This software is also great for the complete novice; as this software can be used to inform the player exactly how to play the hand right up to the showdown. Advanced players will benefit no doubt as, the software is useful in providing instant pot odds and percentages of making your draws and the chance of success with your current hand, thus saving the time and stress of calculating these yourself.

HoldEm genius automatically attaches itself to any open poker room and begins to calculate as soon as you are dealt a hand. A great feature available to Hold Em Genius is that you can play multiple tables while having the program running, I have used it on as many as four different tables at once and I’m sure it can be used on many more simultaneously, however, I would recommend to use it on a maximum of three as it can get pretty confusing.

As previously stated, HoldEm Genius is very easy to use because the program attaches itself to border of the window of the poker room you are using. Therefore, all the information you need is accessible in one window without the need to toggle between the software and the poker room. The information is laid out in easy to read tables and the recommended action (i.e fold, check or bet/raise) is placed in the centre of the screen making it as easy as possible to use the software without obscuring the view or interfering with the poker room.

The “Game Info” window summarizes all the relevant data needed for you. Aside from your current hand and the software’s latest advice, you can see your hand rank, position in relation to the button, and the number of opponents in (and folded).

Additionally, you can see the latest calculated odds for winning at the river, the current pot size, and call amount, if any. If the current state of the hand is pre-flop, you will also see the % chance you will flop the best hand. If the game is post-flop, you will see your % chance of drawing out (drawing cards that will give you the best hand). Note that if you already hold a very good hand, your % chance of drawing out may be very low (because you won’t need to draw to win).

Finally, this window will give you pot odds. Pre-flop, the pot odds are shown in comparison to your odds of having the “top flop” (best hand on the flop). Post-flop, pot odds are compared to your odds of drawing out, and after the river, they are compared to your odds of holding the best hand. In each case, you will either see a color coded “Favorable”, “Even”, or “Not Good”.

A few features unique and exclusive to HoldEm Genius are the ‘Next Card…’ window and the ‘Top Hands’ window. The “Next Card” window gives your “simple outs” at a quick glance. If you are one card away from a straight, for example, you can see this instantly. The Top Hands feature displays the top 25 hole cards for the hand being played. The display updates as the hand continues. Thus – if two threes flop, the top hole hand is ‘3,3′. Useful? In practice the ‘Top Hand’ window is most useful when a robust flop occurs and you think you’ve got the nuts, and you’re not quite sure.

Some of the other capabilities that Holdem Genius comprises are that, the program has the ability to advise the player if they are holding the nuts, along with what hands might beat this hand and what the odds are of making a hand such as a straight or a flush at the river. Hold Em Genius is also capable of being customized to a player’s style. This means it can be adjusted for aggressive, loose or tight play as many poker players use different types of play depending on how the other players at the table are playing.

Although Hold Em Genius is a great piece of software there are a few disadvantages, and as a fellow poker player I feel obligated to inform you. Firstly concerning the advice factor of the program, you should not 100% strictly adhere to the advice this program offers, although it may make you a consistent profit in the long run, it will considerably take the fun and enjoyment out of the game and before you know it you will be a robot just clicking buttons. However I am not saying ignore the advice completely, only take it into consideration, and take advantage of using the other invaluable data available such as pot odds and % of drawing out to make your decisions. The second disappointment is that Hold Em genius isn’t an empirical odds calculator. In this department, it loses out significantly to Hold Em Indicator, I’d love to see a player tracking tool integrated with Hold Em Genius, but it’s not happening. That would really cause Hold Em Indicator to have some significant competition.

In conclusion Hold Em Genius is a great piece of software that can benefit any poker player, whether they may be a novice or a seasoned pro. It earns high regards for covering the essentials of online poker odds calculators and it offers some unique extras. If you’re interested in – top hands or drawing out odds than Holdem Genius is for you, it is the only Odds Calculator I am aware of that offers these metrics. In additionHoldem Genius places hand probability right on the poker table and you can play multiple tables at once while using the software. The best thing about Hold Em Genius is that you can get it for FREE, all you have to do is to sign-up to an online poker room of your choice through their website , seems like a good deal when playing poker is the whole purpose of using the tool. Try it, and if you don’t like it you haven’t lost anything.

Calculatem Pro Review

The recent increase of poker popularity has led to a flood of fish, which are just waiting for you to take their money. These fish are untalented, undisciplined, and lack the fundamental skills to succeed in No Limit Texas Holdem. These players think that since they have seen a few episodes of the World Poker Tour, they are seasoned poker pros. If you want to make money playing online poker then you need to take advantage of these novices and take their money before they donate it to someone else. One way you can make the most of these novices is by using a poker odds calculator, if you are not using such a program, chances are someone is surely using it on you! Recent estimates indicate that more than 40% of online poker players have some sort of 3rd party program aid while playing online Texas Hold’em poker. Since people believe they are so critical to playing online poker, I am going to review a new product entitled Calculatem Pro. This piece of software is from the same people that brought you Texas Calculatem.

Calculatem Pro is a fairly new calculator; it sets the bar a bit higher, and outperforms most of its competitors. I have played with several online calculators in the past several years, and this one is by far the most advanced. It has more sophisticated calculations and new features, that the competition is seriously lacking, plus Calculatem Pro is the only poker odds calculator endorsed by card player magazine.

I’ve found that Calculatem Pro is perfect for everybody: from brand new players to seasoned pros. It offers advice for new players and teaches them game, while offering extensive amounts information for regular players. This makes Calculatem Pro perfect for anyone interested in improving their game.

You simply attach the software to the poker room (compatible with over 100 poker rooms) that you entered and select the place where you are currently sitting. From then on the software will keep track of your cards and give information like pot odds, hand rank, chance to win, outs and also, the thing I like about Calculatem pro is that it offers a suggestion on what you should do (check, raise, fold etc). The software has two modes, the first one is a compact mode which is a long bar that fits nicely under the poker room, and the second one is a larger one that has to be placed on either side of the poker room.

The mini toolbar of Calculatem Pro is great; it displays all the information needed to play professional poker without the need to calculate the odds and outs by yourself. You could easily let the program guide you through poker tournaments without doing much work on your own. It is of course necessary to interpret the given values and make decisions based on your own judgments, you will obviously want to play some hands sometimes where Calculatem pro suggests a fold or fold hands were it suggests a raise.

The sleek and easy to read layout of Calculatem Pro in Full Mode gives you access to every aspect of the game you are playing. The top portion of the interface display gives you an easy to read layout of the cards in your hand and the cards in play.

calculatem-pro.jpg

The center portion of the interface displays Calculatem Pro’s advice on how to play your hand. This advice is shown in a convenient “meter” style graphic indicating how you should play. There is information on odds you’ll draw to win, total outs, pot vs. call, odds you hold a winner, as well as additional odds information about your hand.

Toward the bottom of the full mode interface is where you can find specific odds information about the game you’re playing: Odds on the River, Odds on the Next Card, the Table, and the Deck.

Calculatem Pro offers a wide variety of enhanced features in a user-friendly software. It calculates both hand and pot odds and delivers advice all in real time. It’s like having your own personal poker pro giving you advice as you play every hand.

In addition, the software is from the company that created Texas Calculatem, the original odds calculator now used by over 25,000 online poker players. It has earned great respect, and Calculatem Pro has even more features to satisfy players’ needs.

Finally, this calculator should increase your chances of winning. It will give you a distinct advantage over your opponents by eliminating the guess work in your play. In online poker, time equals money; let the software calculate odds for you, allowing you to keep your mind on the game and winning.

The Other Great thing about Calculatem Pro is that you can get the software for Free by opening a real money account at any of their partner poker rooms. All you have to do is open a new account with one of their partner poker rooms, and they’ll give you a FREE license of Calculatem Pro.

While Calculatem Pro is a great piece of software and does offer a wide variety of features, there are a few things that are lacking in Calculatem Pro. There are Two things that stick out for me.

First, the manual offline mode doesn’t allow you to calculate odds for multiple players. A lot of the calculators posted on the web do this, but these guys apparently spent more time focusing on the calculations that matter, the ones that happen while you’re actually playing. Second, Calculatem Pro doesn’t give any Player stats. In this department, it loses out significantly to Hold Em Indicator, I’d love to see a player tracking tool integrated with Calculatem Pro, but it’s not happening. That would really make it unbeatable.

Overall, though, it’s another great calculator. One feature I especially like is the hand ranking that is given. This is the rank of a particular hand in relation to the others, and is a useful indicator. Another feature unique to Calculatem pro is that it offers Next Card Odd Probabilities as well as River Probabilities. Calculatem Pro’s robust feature set, most competitive free offer, and aesthetically pleasing presentation earn it top marks in the Odds Calculator Category. On top of that Calculatem Pro is the second generation of a proven product and thus should be considered very reliable in terms of service, poker room coverage and updates. Calculatem Pro has helped me win plenty of money in tournaments and cash games playing with tight values and I am sure it can do the same for you. I would personally recommend Calculatem Pro as one of the great online Poker odds calculators, along with Hold Em Indicator.

Titan Poker Review

Overall – 8.6/10

Titan Poker Recently opened for business in 2005, it is part of the rapidly expanding iPoker network of internet poker rooms that use Playtech software. Titan Poker is one of the best rooms in the iPoker network and it is constantly booming as it offers high value promotions, bonuses and freerolls to its players on a consistent basis. Titan is known for sending plenty of players to the biggest live events around the world; these days they are running their own online series of high stakes tournaments – the $3.6 million European Championship of Online Poker. The Games at Titan are relatively loose, with lots of casino players, and the rake at Titan Poker is also slightly better than average. With Loads of imaginative promotions and endless options for the lower stakes players, Titan Poker is the ideal site for beginners and low rolling hustlers, where low competition and major tournaments will always keep profitability within your grasp. If you are looking for a site to launch your online poker career with than Titan Poker is certainly at the top of the list.

Player Traffic – 8/10

Titan Poker is an excellent site if you are new to poker and want to play low limit poker without risking too much money. You will find tones of players playing $0.02/$0.04 all the way up to $1/$2. This site is growing quickly and is beginning to make inroads into the market. The traffic volume overall is near the top of the industry and growing. Real-money player statistics as of March 2008 show 10,000 ring-game players at peak hours, and 55,000 tournament players at peak hours. Titan is a part of the iPoker network so you can find yourself playing against players from other affiliated sites such as Noble Poker.

Tournaments – 9/10

The tournaments are Titan Poker’s best feature and where you can make a ton of cash with this site. Because Titan poker is mainly for the lower limit players, it keeps the higher stakes and better players away. This results in Titan being packed full of bad tournament players, the no limit tournaments are probably the softest on the net. . They offer free rolls at all times of the day and you can buy in for MTTs from $1. Titan also offers daily rebuy tournaments and that’s where most of the fish play. Titan Poker also offers up a monthly $25,000 Guaranteed Tournament and plenty of opportunities to get in cheaply through a single table satellite or an MTT.

Another great Feature is the jackpots Titan Poker has for winning Sit-N-Gos, if you win a certain amount of Sit-N-Gos in a row you win a guaranteed jackpot. E.g. If you win 6 $50 Single Table Sit-N-Gos (Six Handed) in a row you win $50,000!

Titan Poker has recently launched a new series of High Stakes Tournaments, it is the ECOOP II and they are giving away an amazing $3.6 Million Guaranteed, Also they are running a $50,000 Freeroll.

Fish Factor – 8/10

In General the competition is softer than most other poker sites, this is probably due to the fact that Titan Poker is a relatively new site compared to others. Anyhow you should be able to make considerable amounts of profits at the lower limit tables where the lesser skilled players reside. The competition starts get a bit stiffer as you move up the limits and most of the sharks on the site can be found at limits $2/$4 and higher. A lot of weaker players can also be found at the tournament tables and here they are more evenly distributed. The array of cheap sit-and-go’s, as well as daily tournaments, draws many novices and are therefore usually very winnable.

Software – 8/10

One of the reasons the iPoker sites are becoming very successful is the solidity and user-friendliness of their software. The software is visually appealing and the functionality is good with no noticeable bugs although the game-play can be a bit slow at times. Titan Poker’s lobby is clearly defined and easy to navigate; Statistics displayed in the lobby include average pot size, players seeing the flop percentage and hands per hour. Titan Poker has all the necessary components to make it a very enjoyable place to play cards. This site looks and feels professional. All the necessary user options are available, as well as good chat capabilities and a very handy tracker for anyone keeping an eye on their Titan bonus points.

The action buttons (fold/bet/call/raise) are neatly arranged when it is your turn to act, making an easy task to pick your choice quickly. There is an option to chat live with an assistant should you need it. This is always a helpful feature, particularly when you are new to a site.

Titan Poker also has a cool feature where you can review your recent game history in real time from within the poker game in graphical format. Talk about a quick and simple analysis.

Bonuses – 9.5/10

Titan Poker has one of the most generous first-time deposit bonuses of 100% up to $500. Titan Poker also offers a reload bonus up to $200. You are also eligible to play in a weekly $1000 Depositors Freeroll with every deposit whether it’s a first-time deposit or a reload. Titan Poker also gives out a High Hand Bonus for the top hand of the day, and they offer a Bad Beat Bonus. There are also Jackpot Bonuses for players that can win multiple, 5 to 6 depending on the bonus, sit and go tournaments in a row. Get A 100% Deposit Match upto $500

Customer Support – 9.5/10

Titan Poker Support is available via live chat, e-mail and telephone with toll-free numbers available for UK based players. Most inquiries are answered very quickly and the quality of support is very high.

Overall 8.6/10 – 86%

Gus Hansen Player Profile

Gus Hansen Player Bio

If there is one player that is feared and respected at the poker table at all times, it is The Great Dane, that’s what he is known as. Gus Hansen is one of my favorite players to watch, in my opinion he is the best player in the poker world today. It just amazes me to watch him take pots away from his opponents time after time with inferior starting hands, he has an uncanny knack of knowing exactly what moves to make on what players, it has to come down to his extraordinary ability to read his opponents.

His style of play is considered loose-aggressive and while this playing style can spell disaster for the majority of the poker world, Gus executes it to perfection and it has caused him to become an extremely profitable and entertaining player to watch. Gus Hansen has earned the respect of all poker players in the world with his super intellect and his remarkable abilities in poker.

Gus Hansen was born in Danish capitol Copenhagen in the mid 70s. During his late childhood, Gus played games like Backgammon and reached world class play. At around the age of 20, Gus decided that the Danish backgammon market wasn’t big enough. He invested his money on a trip to the United States of America and ended up in Santa Cruz, California and began playing at the card rooms. He broke into the mainstream poker world during the debut season of the World Poker Tour. He entered the event at the Bellagio casino, paid the buy-in fee for the World Poker Tour: Five-Diamond World Poker Classic. A total of 147 players participated and Gus Hansen’s investment later became the turning point in his poker career. He won the tournament and cashed in for over half a million Dollars. During that first season alone, he made final tables at two major events, and he won both events. He also won The Bad Boys of Poker WPT event in the second season.

Overall Gus Hansen has won over 1.5 million dollars in these WPT events, more than any other player in the world. He makes an otherwise often mundane game very interesting to watch. He is certainly the focus of the entire table whenever he sits down.

One saying from Gus Hansen is “Always play the player and not the player’s cards”. Well there’s the secret to his play, not that hard huh? Think again. To the average poker player Gus appears to play horrible poker, he bets at the wrong time with no hand, he will raise with 74 off suit, he bullies the other players with large bets. He takes advantage of the other players by knowing exactly how they will react to any of his bets. Most players think he is a donkey and gets lucky, but Gus makes his own luck, he has an uncanny knack of knowing when he is beat and will only go to showdowns with his good hands, and he bluffs players out of the pot with his inferior hands. You combine this erratic style play with his mathematical genius and you have a poker player that is to be feared all over the world.

What makes Gus so exciting to watch is that he will take a lot of chances that most other players are scared to take. Not all players can accomplish this successfully but you will amazed at how many times Gus will catch the cards he needs, I believe the secret to his success is that he plays his poker with no fear, playing fearlessly might also cause lady luck to be on his side. Occasionally his style of play will go wrong but Gus’ winnings and success have proved that his style of play can be profitable if executed properly.
